5 Tips to Plan a Painting Project in a Fully Operational Building
Working in buildings and ensuring the remain fully operational is what we do best. We thought we’d share some of ways and processes we have in place to ensure every commercial painting project we undertake is a success
1 - Confirm the Details
Making all of the key decisions before works commence on site is essential. This includes agreeing the cost, colour(s), paint type, payment terms, points of contact and working hours
Having all of these particulars agreed in advance means your project will run smoother as there’ll be no confusion and the personnel undertaking the work won’t be waiting until the eleventh hour for some key pieces of information to be decided upon
2 - Outline Your Needs
As the client it’s your responsibility to discuss your needs.
For example…
Perhaps a lot of your staff work from home on Mondays and Fridays. In this case it would make most sense to request that your canteen gets started on Friday morning and finished by Monday evening
Maybe you run a training centre that has a spare training room. In this case you could give the painters access to one room at a time with classes being organised to take place in a different room to facilitate painting
Perhaps your a church or place of workhip and need access to the church at 10am every morning for Mass. Giving the painters access to the church from 7am each morning will mean they’d welcome a slightly longer tea break at 10am meaning the church will be available for mass at 10am. This compromise keeps everybody happy
3 - Be Flexible
Some areas of a building may be challenging to paint while the building is in use. A good example of this would be painting a reception area in a busy showroom. Providing access to the painters on a Saturday would enable them to paint the “busy” area while the building is empty. Being flexible and providing access over the weekend will enable your company to remain fully operational while the works are being undertaken
4 - Accept Disruption
Working in fully operational buildings can cause some disruption. The best thing to do is to accept that there will be some level of disruption, acknowledge that the disruption will pass and that the disruption is for the greater good of your workplace
5 - Choose Your Contractor Wisely
The cheapest quote is often considered to be the best quote. Be mindful that the cheapest quotation doesn’t always deliver the best value for money.
Just like the way you review each applicant who applies for a job in your company review each contractor who submits a tender.
As you are aware not all applicants are equal nor are all contractors. Some contractors have particular expertise that makes them a specialist in a specific field or sub-filed.
