How to Measure a Room for Wallpaper?
Wallpaper is something most other painters dread measuring and pricing. As a result we thought we’d share our expertise in this area in the hope of helping you.
This post will focus on measuring on normal wallpaper as opposed to the wide vinyl wall coverings.
When is comes to important knowing how many rolls you need is important because you will need to order the correct number of rolls.
As wallpaper comes in batches if you are two rolls short you will need to order two more rolls. These rolls may come from a different batch and there is no guarantee they will match in with the other rolls despite being the paper!
Further to this, a paperhanger will charge you by the roll for hanging wall paper so if you know how many rolls of paper you need you will be more in control of managing costs.
To measure how many rolls of wallpaper you need you will need to measure the length of each wall and the height of each wall.
Let’s pretend the wall you measured is 4.50 meters. As the width of a standard roll of wallpaper is 0.52 meters we need to divide 4.50 meters by 0.52 meters. once you do this you will establish that you will need 8.65 drops of wallpaper. It is necessary to round 8.65 up 9.
The next step in to measure the height of the wall. Lets say the height of the wall is 2.40 metres. Therefore we need to multiply 9 drops x 2.40 meters. This will give us the amount of paper we need. As a result we will need 21.60 metres of wall paper that is 0.52 meters wide.
An average roll of wall paper if 10.05 meters. As a result we need to divide 21.60 metres by 10.05 metres. By doing this we learn that we need 2.06 rolls. of paper. Unfortunately you cannot buy 0.06 of a roll of wallpaper. As a result 2.06 will need to be rounded up to the nearest whole number. As a result you will need to purchase 3 rolls of paper.
When measuring for paper it also important to remember if you select a wallpaper that has a very obvious you will need to order 20% more than needed because there will be more waste when cutting lengths and matching drops.
