How Do you Paint a Ceiling?

how-to-paint-a-ceiling

Here’s our top tips for painting ceilings like a professional

Step 1 Check for Water Stains

Before painting any room look at the ceilings if you notice any water stains/ water marks touch this up with a good stain block before you fully sheet up the room (put a sheet under the area your applying the stain block to) There are lots of good stainblocks on the market. Zinsser do great range!

Step 2 Remove the Small Stuff

We always remove any small items such as ornaments, picture frames, small pieces of furniture and side lamps, and place them somewhere safe

Step 3 Sheet Up

Begin by placing dust sheets or clean plastic sheets on the furniture and then on the floor

If the ceiling has no cornice/ coving we suggest leaving the furniture in place and not moving the furniture to centre. Moving the furniture to the centre of a room can make it a challenge to cut in around light fittings

Step 4 Cut in

Using a paint brush cutting in a ceiling involved cutting in around the light fittings and the corners, If you have a ceiling/ cornice you will need to paint too!

Step 5 Roll the Ceiling

Once the ceiling is cut in take our your roller

In case you are concerned about the stain block you applied most water based stain blocks dry quickly. By time you have sheeted out a room and cut in the ceiling the stain should be dry. To be extra careful leave the area you applied the stain block to until last

Step 6

Let the ceiling dry and give it a second coat if it’s needed

Always Remember

1 - To use an extension pole

2 - To have a sheet under yourself

3 - To be patient and take your time

4 - To apply lots of paint!
