What Paint Should I Put On Raw Plaster?

When painting new plaster we always following these steps

  1. We make sure that the raw plaster is fully dry. If you paint wet plaster the paint will peel and flake off so it is best to wait until the plaster is dry

  2. Use a matt emulsion paint. Some of the matt emulsion paints we use are Crown Cover Matt Emsulsion, MacPherson’s Eclipse Emsulsion or Dulux Total Cover Emulsion. People often think you have to paint raw plaster white do don’t. You can get any matt emulsion paint mixed up in your preferred colour and this is the best approach

  3. Thin the emulsion by 10-15% because it will be easier to apply

  4. Apply the thined out matt emulsion to the raw plaster

  5. Once the paint dries you can redcoat using vinyl matt emulsion, mid sheen emulsion or soft sheen emulsion

Our top tip would be not to apply a mid sheen emulsion or soft sheen emulsion directly onto to raw plaster because it make pull away from the plaster is sheets!
