How to Remove Mould Before Painting?
Removing mould is a common activity we need to do before we can start painting.
Why does mould appear?
Mould appears in rooms that have poor ventilation and sticks to parts of the room where hot meets cold for example around the surround of a window
Can I paint over mould?
It is bad practice to paint to directly over mould
What can I do to remove the mould?
To remove mould it is necessary to learn it down with 1 part bleach and 3 parts water. To get the best result it is advised to leave the bleach on the surface containing the mould for 30 minutes or more before cleaning it off
What paint should i paint the wall or ceiling?
It is good practice to paint the ceiling or wall in a soft sheen emulsion as it will make it easier to wipe the mould off the surface if it reappears
Other suggestions are to put an anti mould additive into the paint; apply an anti fungal or anti mould paint or use an mould block
One last tip!
When it comes to mould, paint isn’t the problem despite the mould appearing. The actual problem is a lack of ventilation so we advise rectifying this issue before treating the mould because the mould will continue to reappear
