What to do when your ceiling peels as you paint it?
Painting ceilings is usually a straightforward. Sometimes a ceiling or sections of a ceiling appear to be solid and not IN need to be rubbed down, raked out or filled.
That said when painting the ceiling the weight of the roller pulls a section of the ceiling away from itself. This happens because there is either moisture in the ceiling or in older houses a layer of lining like a like paper.
The best thing to do it nothing until the paint on the rest of the ceiling is dry because sometime the extent of the damage is not as bad once the paint has dried and the area that bubbled and pulled back contracts.
Once the ceiling is dry we would
Scrape back any loose material in the area that pulled back
Fill the damaged area if necessary
Apply stain block if necessary
Touch up the area that pulled back with a brush and not a roller!
Repaint the entire ceiling if necessary however glide over the section that pulled back very very gently with the roller. Use a rad roller if possible on the area that pulled back because this will prevent the ceiling from pulling back again!
